In February 2016, Mayorkun, who was a Banker at the time posted this short Video of himself playing a keyboard at a friend’s place on Twitter while making his own version of ‘The Money’ by Davido and YBNL’s Olamide
The video caught Davido’s attention who reached out to him on Twitter.
According to Mayorkun:
He said he already decided to leave his current bank job to search for another one, due to bad pay before posting the Video on Twitter
“After Davido reached out to me on Twitter. I borrowed money for transport fare. My brother and I went to his house same night. When we got there, we stayed outside and was eventually taken inside,”
“We met Davido, we spoke and went straight to the studio. He asked me if I was gonna go to the club and I said, “Uh hun! It wasn’t club that brought me here.’
“So, we went to the studio and I recorded my first song, “Eleko”, that same night.”
Mayorkun was signed to Davido's record label DMW from 2016 to 2021. Mayorkun released his debut studio album The Mayor of Lagos in November 2018
